North Norfolk resident, Anthony Shiels has 20 years experience in studying, writing, performing and teaching the piano.

I've guided a vast number of students through various grades with 100% pass rate. I also teach improvisation, ear training and the techniques of songwriting development.

As each individual is different, I tailor each lesson to the needs and aspirations of the student. I have taught pupils aged between 6 - 70 years. I have an up to date DBS certificate and also have experience with SEN."

Until his recent relocation to Sheringham, Anthony was the resident piano tutor at Malcolm Sargent Primary School, Stamford and various schools in Peterborough and Lincolnshire.

My private lessons are taught from my designated teaching space at home. This is Covid secure and please contact me for my full list of safety measures.

Please also get in touch for lessons in your own home.

About Me

an at the piano

My name's Anthony and I teach the piano. I began studying the piano at the age of 13. I initially learned to play by ear, picking out melodies and started writing music shortly after. I achieved A* at GCSE music and went on to study Popular Music at Peterborough College. Throughout this time I continued to hone my craft as a writer and performer, playing in numerous bands on the Cambridgeshire circuit. One of my compositions entered the UK top 40, and I am now a published songwriter.

Music has taken me all around the world, including tours in UK, China, America and Europe. Most recently, I was hired as a pianist for an album recording at the prestigious Abbey Road, Studio 2.

After leaving college, I split my teaching with assisting children with SEN through music at Sir Harry Smith Academy, Whittlesey. Piano however always remained my focus.

I studied Pop, Blues, Boogie Woogie, Jazz, Classical and I find beauty in all music. After taking on a couple of private students around 2005, I developed a passion for teaching. I have guided over 100 pupils through graded examinations (although this isn't a requirement) and take pride in my 100% pass rate. I take great pleasure teaching students to express themselves through music, to gain in ability and confidence.

I regularly perform both solo and with The Mesh Band, Wild Boys 80s Band, The Candle Thieves and Glove Compartment. I'm available for session work, both on stage or in the studio. I also perform as an event pianist for restaurants, weddings and corporate functions.
